Cholesterol, which is often referred as main culprit for many of our problems is very similar to fat substances that are in our body, and put body needs it to function normally. It is present in cell wall and membranes of the body, including the brain, nerves, skin, muscles, intestine, liver, heart, etc. Maybe you didn’t know that our body produces cholesterol as much as it needs, without additives from food.
 
Only a small part of cholesterol can be found in our blood. Studies have shown that by reducing cholesterol levels in our body,  you don’t only prevent disease, but also you reduce the risk and complications of the developed disease. There is good and bad cholesterol . Form of HDL or good cholesterol isn’t  dangerous at all, it actually protects you against atherosclerosis and heart disease.

Recommended Foods for Lowering Cholesterol

From meat it is recommended fish, poultry, veal. You should increase intake of foods which are rich in so called long strands like apples, citrus fruits, oats, barley, beans, carrots, strawberries, bran, and fruits and vegetables in general. From oil is recommended olive oil, pumpkin and sunflower oil. Certainly an important step in reducing cholesterol is to reduce body weight. This is achieved not only the aforementioned diet but adequate physical activity.
 
Here are some foods that will help you lower your cholesterol.
 
 Oats and barley
 
If we talk about the health of the heart,  oat meal as well as other grains, such as barley, are also extremely useful. They are packed with fiber, which keeps your satiety for a long time and reduces craving for snacks.  Soluble fiber, the kind that the body can not digest, reduce cholesterol we absorb.
 
Fish
 
Lean fish significantly reduce blood cholesterol. Fish such as salmon, sardines and tuna have a high percentage of omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce triglyceride levels.
 
Nuts
 
Scatter them over the salad, add them to cereal, nibble them when you get hungry between meals. As confirmed by many studies, each nut will contribute to reducing total cholesterol levels.
 
Apples
 
Average-sized apple contains about four grams of fiber, which reduces LDL, or about 17 percent of the desired daily intake. An apple a day will do miracles to your body! Give it a try.
 
Strawberries
 
Strawberries are rich in pectin, a soluble fiber that can lower LDL.Delicious, tasty and very healthy.
 
Soy
 
Soy is unique, since it is an excellent source of protein, yet contains no cholesterol, as well as animal products. However, it is not so powerful eliminator of cholesterol as previously thought. A study from 2010. suggests that frequent consumption of soy can reduce the level of moderate eight to 10 percent.
 
Red Wine
 
Red wine may be particularly useful, because it is rich in antioxidants, which reduce levels of LDL cholesterol.
 
Green Tea
 
We all know about amazing health benefits of green tea. It is great for almost everything. This wonder drink is associated with many  beneficial effects, but of course you should be careful when drinking green tea with some medications. Be cautious!
