Keyword Popularity Tools

Without The Right Keywords, Your Relying on Luck!

You have two scenerios to choose from:
1. You take the time to write an article or make a web page, and you publish it and then you wait… You wait to see if it will show up on Google’s first page. And you wait, and you wait. Nothing, When you check your site, it is showing up on page 10 or page 11, and you wait some more for your page to move up so that it gets some much needed traffic, but it never does and you don’t know why.

2. You get an idea of a product you would like to promote. You do a bit of keyword research, then you take the time to write an article or make a web page, and you publish it and then you wait…. You wait to see if it will show up on Google’s first page. And you wait, and you wait. Soon you see your page moving from Google’s page 10 or 11, and wait some more and soon it hits page 1. Then soon it climbs page 1 till it is showing up right below the paid ads, and your thrilled because you didn’t pay a penny to get it there!

…. Now think about this. Both of those results I described above are possible. Which result would you choose?

You can have either, but most of the time, keywords are what will make or break you. Keywords are the key!

No Keyword Research... No Traffic!!!

Search Engine Keyword Tool

Search Engine Keyword Tool

“A search engine keyword tool? What is it, and why do I need it? Can I get away without it?” Those are the questions that used to run through my mind.

Before I get into all of this with you, I feel the need to say that I am not a super affiliate (yet lol), a product creator, or an affiliate marketing guru, and …. I’m happy with that. Who I am however, is someone who is still learning the ropes of affiliate marketing. Someone who will always be learning because things online change all the time. Someone who has been in the trenches, just like you may or may not be right now. Someone who fumbled around for far too long without making any money online as I tried to learn all of this stuff on my own. So now that I am on the other side, and having the success that I sought for so many years, I feel comfortable in sharing the things I’ve learned with others who may still be struggling.

One of the things that I struggled with for far too long, was not knowing the value of doing keyword research PRIOR to beginning a project. Honestly, I would do it COMPLETELY backwards… if at all. Then I would sit back and wonder why I was never having any traffic to my webpages.

You know as well as I do…. (even if you are brand spankin new to affiliate marketing) without traffic, no one sees your stuff, thus… no sales. Period. Zip. Nada.

One great way, and a necessary way to get eyes on your stuff, is to use a search engine keyword tool.

Keyword Research Tool

Keyword Research Tool

In a nutshell, a keyword research tool is used to evaluate the exact wording that you would like to rank for, and it will give you an idea of the amount of other websites on the internet currently that already rank for that keyword, how difficult it would be for you to rank for that keyword if you use it, and some suggested alternative words you may be better able to rank for instead of the keyword you first chose.

There are many keyword research tools available for you to use online. Some of them are free, some have free trials then charge a fee to use, and some cost money to use right out of the gate.

Search Keyword Popularity

Search Keyword Popularity

When you are doing keyword research, the first thing you will be doing is to search keyword popularity. Basically, you enter your keyword into the search box, and a list of keywords, and related keywords will populate into a list of results.

Whatever keyword research tool you are using, will show you the popularity of that keyword based upon how many searches are being performed for that particular keyword. Of course you will want to find a keyword that has a decent amount of searches, but not a huge amount. The more searches that are being done for a keyword on a monthly basis, is sure to mean that more marketers and other websites are trying to rank for that keyword as well, so your competition is going to be more difficult.

Based upon what platform you are advertising on, will depend on what amount of competition you will want to work with. If you are marketing using pay per click, the number of searches you will target will be different than the number of searches you will target if you are advertising on a wordpress blog, or a similar platform. Hopefully that makes a little bit of sense because I almost confused myself trying to type it.

At risk of sounding stupid, I will sum this up by saying that a good keyword research tool will show you, among other things…. the search keyword popularity

Niche Keyword Analyzer

When you are marketing a particular product or group of products, a keyword research tool is great for niche keyword analyzing. Its ability to show you the number of exact or broad searches for your keyword and to give you alternative keywords is so beneficial when you are working in a niche market.

(A niche market is any group of products that you decide to specialize in. ie- your niche market may be “pink dog collars” if that is the main product that you are trying to promote, and if your intent is to learn about and write about all the pink dog collars you can find.)

Find Website Keywords

Another important function of a good keyword popularity, or research too, is its ability to find website keywords.

Lets say that you want to promote a product who’s main sales page is a .com. With a keyword research tool, you can plug that .com address into the search bar and the tool will find website keywords that the .com is likely to be targeting.

This is great in terms of giving you some ideas on which keywords you also should target.

Competitor Keyword Analysis

Competitor Keyword Analysis

One final feature of a good keyword research tool is its ability to do competitor keyword analysis. To use the tool in this way, all you need to do is to do a good old Google search.

Enter the keyword into the browser bar of Google. Hit enter. A bunch of websites will appear. Take note of the websites that show up on page 1 (which is where you want yours to be) Enter their URL into the keyword tool’s search box, click on “search URL” and find out what keywords that site is successfully ranking for.

That is a great way to do some quick competitor keyword analysis. The amount of high ranking keywords that those sites are ranking for will affect your ability to also successfully rank for those exact keywords, so taking a peek at the competition is a great thing, and a good keyword tool will help you to do this.

Free Keyword Tool

Free Keyword Tool

Now that I’ve done my best to describe what a keyword tool is, and your taking my suggestion of using one vs. skipping this step and trying to make it to Google’s first page based on luck (like I’ve done many times over) you may be wondering what suggestions I can give you for a great free keyword tool. (Because everyone likes free! lol)

The best free keyword tool that I have used is the good old Google Keyword tool. It shows you the global monthly searches, and the local monthly searches (based on the country you live in) as well as the keyword level of competition.

Competition is based on H (high), M (medium) and L (low) As a rule of thumb, you want to avoid the H, and gear toward the L, but try to have the L’s be at least a local monthly search total of 5,000 or more.

Now don’t get me wrong, there is a little more to doing keyword research that just that, but it is a good start.

Only problem with this particular tool is that despite having a L and being over 5,000 does not guarantee that you will be able to rank for the chosen word. There are other steps that you can take when using this tool that can give you more of an idea if you can rank or not, but since it is time tedious, I have not learned how to do it to the extent that I would feel comfortable even beginning to trying to explain.

To access the Google Keyword tool, you can find it by simply doing a search for it on Google. Enter “Google Keyword Research Tool” into the browser and the one you want is the second option that appears in the results. Easy peasey.

The Google Keyword Tool used to be the one I used most (after I quit being hard headed and started doing keyword research at all) until I found one that fit my needs a little better, and was more user friendly and a huge time saver. It gave me more info on each keyword which is what I was looking for in a keyword research tool to begin with.

Initial Keyword Analysis

Initial Keyword Analysis

Without some training in keyword research, Google’s Keyword Tool will only really help you out when it comes to some very initial keyword analysis. A lot of the magic of this keyword tool will need to be learned and will cost you some time in actually performing the analysis,

Let me stop here for just a second and tell you something that I learned the hard way…… When marketing online, you can either do things the hard way or the easy way. The time consuming way, or the fast way. The free way or the paid way. Its just a fact… you will either be trading time for money, or money to save time. Take your pick.

Although I do not recommend paying for anything unnecessary when it comes to working online, I do now however feel that skimping on keyword research is not one of the areas where I want to spend hours of my time if I can just pay a few bucks and avoid a ton of extra work.

After doing some searching, I found a great keyword research tool that does exactly what I need it to do, and it affordable enough that I don’t bat an eye about paying for because of its features.

Jaaxy Keyword Research Tool

Jaaxy Keyword Research Tool

The Jaaxy keyword research tool is one of those “one stop shops” that have everything you need to do your analyzing and do it right.

With this tool, not only can you evaluate your competitors keywords, find keywords for any website url, and do some keyword popularity checking…. but you can:

find alternative keywords
search similar phrases
check the seo rank of each keyword option
and….
get an estimate of how many hits you will get to your site if you chose a certain keyword!
(that last one is not only a unique feature, but it is priceless in my book!)

This keyword tool allows you to select the keywords you want and it keeps track of them for you, in an organized list right there on their site. This eliminates the need of even more list making and taking notes on your choices. (remember…. eliminating steps saves time= more time for production= more money to be made)

If you have tried any other keyword tool, or even if this is your very first go round with using a keyword tool, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at this one when you try it for yourself.

Free Trial Keyword Research Tool

Jaaxy gives you the ability to try them out before you commit to purchasing anything. Yay!! When you create a totally free account with them, you can do 30 keyword searches entirely free!

I would highly suggest that you take advantage of the free trial before jumping in and paying for anything, as I would advise you to do with any program or training that you can try before you buy. Never know, Jaaxy may not be your cup of tea, but I can’t say enough good things about it, because it works for me and it saves me lots of time.
