GRANDPA’S HIDE-AWAY

Do you ever need to get away from it all?  A time to let your brain and your body slow down for a while.  I sure do. Here is my place to go hide when granny’s “to do list” gets to long.  Or, just any other reason I can think of.

A few years ago I realized that I had moved out here in the country – yes to live in the country.  But after about forty years town was moving in around me.  And being old, living with the kids now and on Social Security, well, it’s just to late to move out farther.

So, I begin looking into land being sold for taxes.  Just an old patch of woods was all I was looking for.  You know, go hide in the woods.  And, it had to be from “play” money that was available.  No going into debt.

You know that I was out bid on a number of places.  And was turned off by a good number of places.  I should have been seeking God’s guidance on the matter, it would have saved me time and a bunch of money.  But God “kinda forced” me into a place that I was over looking.  You see,I was stupid enough to think I needed more woods.

This place was not intended for any investment in any way.  Hiding was more important.  BUT, God made may little investment pay off.  Checking the county records shows that my little hide away has a value of more than 300% over what I paid for it.  AND, the place I really, really, really wanted, depreciated over 500%
over what I had bid on it . Thank God, I lost the bid.

GETTING THE HIDE-AWAY

THE WOODS

THE WOODS

A look at my hide-away’s front yard.  It has two small ravines that meet for my front yard.  That is great.  It’s too steep to do anything with.  But great for hiking around on.  And looks a whole lot better than a bunch of houses or cars.

If I do not spend too much time there, deer come around some times.  I actually had one about a month ago walk right past me while I was setting in an old chair.
By holding real still, it walked about twelve to fifteen feet in front of me.  It even looked at me twice.  I guess it thought I was part of the old chair.

But what ended up being a real advantage to me was the old abandoned mobile home.  Sure it needed a lot of “fixen”.  That might go on as long as I live.  But, it gives me something to do, and. there is a whole lot more room to stand up in it than there would be in a tent.

That also let me put in an old wood stove for heat and a propane stove for cooking. Along with room for extra clothes and lots of “grub” to eat.

THE FOSSILS

This piece of property is at an elevation of two thousand feet above sea level according to the government topo maps.  And, perhaps 500 miles to the closest ocean.  If you want to check this out, it is about half way between Clifty, Arkansas and Forum, Arkansas on county road 8350.  Further, it is almost at the top of the hill.

But guess what.  In contrast to the area I live, it has fossils scattered all over the place.  And, the neighbor’s place behind it is the same.  So, what?

They are sea shell fossils.  They did not drop out of a cloud.  They are proof of the Biblical deluge.  Or, Noah’s flood.  I have picked up dozens of these fossils.  I am the owner of a piece of property that proves the scoffers wrong and the Bible is correct.  Perhaps that makes me as happy as anything about this little old hide-away that God has given me.
