Breakfast on the Go
In today’s world being so rushed and hectic one thing many people do not do is take the time to have breakfast. We were taught in school, breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it gives you energy and the nutrition’s you need.
I am sure there are smoothie bars around, but making your own smoothie is one of the wisest things you can do for yourself and your family as far as nutrition. But it is a time thing right? In the mornings no one has time to get the ingredients together, hook up the Ninja machine, blah, blah, blah. I perfectly can understand that. However where there is a will, there is a way.
You can make smoothies the night before and package them up in individual travel mugs. In the morning throw a few more pieces of ice in the traveling cup, shake and go. This is only one concept of smoothies, the health benefits is something that should be highly considered. Read on…
Making a Smoothie
When you are making a smoothie a few things you need to consider is:
1. Make it healthy
2. Do not use refined sugar
3. Incorporate ingredients that will benefit you
Besides using the ice, milk, fruit and veggies (yes, I said it vegetables) you can add other items like, local honey, agave, powered herbs, and fresh herbs. Everything you add to the smoothie should have health benefits. Instead of using whole milk or 2% milk you can use Almond Milk: more health benefits, less calories, almonds have great healing properties and it taste really good. Almond milk will add that little extra something to the smoothies that will make it seem more like a treat instead of eating something that is healthy.
To make a basic smoothie-I use a ninja but blenders work also.
One Serving Size:
4-5 Ice Cubes
1/2 banana
3 large strawberries (cut up)
1 tablespoon of raw honey
1/2 cup Almond Milk
Herbs of your choice
Mix it up and you are ready to go.
Bananas-Great source for potassium, Vit C, Vit B-6, Manganese, Fiber and Bone Health
Strawberries-Great source for antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, healthy eyes, bone health and manganese
Plus there is health benefits in honey (which I will write about another post) and the almond milk, not to mention the health benefits of the herbs you use (which again, I will write another post about it)
