Mice are a nuisance rodent that can cause damage and destruction in the walls of your home, in the attic and in ceilings – places that are hard for you to get to and sometimes impossible to see. They also can carry bacteria, fleas and other diseases and pests
You Know You Need To Get Rid Of Mice… But Where Do You Start?
First of all, examine the exterior of your home. Your uninvited guest had to get in from the outside. They can enter through tiny holes and cracks sometimes as small as a quarter.
If you find one, if you find anything at all, plug it immediately. Use aluminum foil because that is something mice do not like to eat. Concrete or caulk will then seal the hole.
The sooner you do it the better – before they bring friends and before the destruction begins. Waiting too long will only cause you more trouble.
It only takes 2 to reproduce and they will do that. They are looking for a warm, dry place to have their babies. Once you have plugged up any holes it is time to get rid of mice that have already entered your home.
Using Poison To Get Rid Of Mice
Poison is effective in that it only takes one bite to work. The mouse does not have to eat the whole block or portion of bait. Once it is ingested, it works quickly.
A drawback to poison is that first of all, you have to handle it. You must be careful it is not placed in an area where children or pets can get to it.
Poison is best suited for ceilings and attics.
Get Rid Of Mice With Traps
Traps work well because they are quick acting. You can get humane or non-humane traps.
There are snap traps which kill immediately, or sticky or box traps which contain the animal until you can dispose of it.
The drawback to traps is that you must check them daily to make sure they still have bait or that they have not tripped prematurely OR to EMPTY THEM!
You also must be careful to place these out of reach of children or pets.
However, you cannot be sure they are actually working or that the mice have not moved to another area of your house.
Generally it is best to employ a combination of the above mentioned methods to succeed. Within a few days to one week, you should see results.
The most important thing to remember is not to wait to take action!
There will always be a pregnant mother mouse and babies will be born soon if you do not act quickly.
So at the first sign of an interloper, head directly to your local hardware store to purchase supplies. It is worth going into work late if it helps you get rid of mice once and for all!
