Lover Eternal Synopsis
by J.R. Ward Published 2006 ….. 441 Pages
A legendary lover and hands down the best looking male vampire alive, Rhage is a member of the elite and dangerous Black Dagger Brotherhood. A super strong subspecies of the vampire race, the Brotherhood is sworn to protect the vampire civilians from the evil “lessers” brought to life by the Omega to wipe all vampires from the face of the earth.
Driven by a curse from the Vampire deity, the Scribe Virgin he is voracious in his appetites for both battle and sex, Rhage (aka Hollywood) is impulsive in the extreme. There seems to be no filter between Rhage’s brain and what comes out his mouth or the actions he takes.
As you might imagine when a male such as this falls in love nothing will keep him from his woman. Not the fact that she’s a human who doesn’t know vampires exist… Not dozens of undead lessers who want her dead… Not even a direct order from his commanding officer…
Nothing but the beast within!
Lover Eternal by JR Ward… My Review
It’s a joy to watch this new vampire society and it’s customs come to life It becomes obvious that biology drives much of the complex social structure that is so similar to yet so different from that of humans.
JR Ward seamlessly weaves an awareness of this social structure into the background her stories. It was a joy to go from giggling at the “Macho-ness” of her main characters to understanding why they act the way they do.
That being said there are some things about this series that I just can’t get into. First on the list is the characters names. Wrath, Rhage, Phury, Zsadist… Come on give me a break. One reviewer commented that these are the names The Wiggles would use when doing a vampire skit and I have to agree. Just too silly!
Also there is a homo-erotic undertone to the brothers interactions that I find disturbing. It’s just not my cup of tea. So far it’s been nothing blatant but makes me wonder where the stories are going in the future and if I want to go there with them.
That being said I really liked this book. It’s an erotic vampire romance novel filled with steamy sex scenes but still has tons of kick ass action with a good story and ongoing plot line. Watching Mary help Rhage to tame his beast and the fact that it’s her voice more than anything that calms him struck a chord with me and made it much more endearing and real.
The sex scenes in “Eternal Lover” are plentiful and HOT without being overly graphic. If you’re looking for vampire horror and gore this book isn’t for you as there isn’t any.
I give “Eternal Lover” by JR Ward a… B+
